The Weekend Wrap: 9/9/18

September 9, 2018, 11:14 pm By Joel Leave a Comment

Rabbitohs halfback Adam Reynolds will require scans on his shoulder, and captain Greg Inglis took a blow to the ribs, but both players are expected to be back next week for their semi final against the Dragons.

Rabbitohs assistant coach David Furner will leave the club at the end of the season, after landing the head coaching job at Leeds.

Warriors fullback Roger Tuivasa-Sheck will be in a race against time to be ready for the Kiwi’s end-of-year Test, after suffering a strained MCL.

The news was worse for Sharks star Wade Graham, who’ll miss the rest of the finals and the start of next season, after tearing his ACL in the loss to the Roosters.

Roosters centre Latrell Mitchell is in danger of missing his side’s preliminary final, after being charged with a crusher tackle on Josh Dugan.

Roosters prop Siosiua Taukeiaho is also in some doubt, after injuring his ankle during the win.

Dragons forward Jack de Belin failed to finish his side’s win due to an ankle problem, but still expects to be back for next week’s semi final.

The same can’t be said for Gareth Widdop, who dislocated his shoulder again, and is considered “no chance” for next weekend.

The Eels are rumoured to be shopping Mitch Moses around to other NRL clubs, after reluctantly accepting that nobody wants Corey Norman.

NRL fans had best make sure their TV’s mute button is functioning, following reports that Ray Hadley will be calling more games for Channel 9 in 2019.

The Weekend Wrap: 1/7/18

July 1, 2018, 11:47 pm By Joel Leave a Comment

Referees boss Gerard Sutton has defended the rubbish 2-referee system, declaring that it’s here to stay.

Eels coach Brad Arthur has indicated that he’d be happy to bring back centre Jarryd Hayne in 2019.

The Warriors have re-signed assistant coaches Stacey Jones and Tony Iro, following the side’s surprisingly strong season so far.

Roosters forward Dylan Napa may be in doubt for Origin 3, after suffering a suspected MCL injury in their last-minute loss to the Storm.

The Blues will be sweating on the fitness of Napa’s teammate Boyd Cordner, after the New South Wales captain missed the Storm clash due to a calf injury.

The Roosters may be without back-rower Victor Radley in their next start, as he faces a one-week suspension for dangerous contact on Christian Welch.

Storm coach Craig Bellamy has declared that back-rower Ryan Hoffman will be welcome back next year, if he chooses to play on in 2019.

The Sea Eagles’ outside back depth is set to be tested even further in the coming weeks, after winger Matthew Wright suffered an AC joint injury, and centre Dylan Walker failed to finish the match due to a knee injury.

It’s rumoured that Manly skipper Daly Cherry-Evans is set to make a surprise return to the Queensland side at halfback, with Ben Hunt battling to remain in the team as the super-sub.

The Knights’ hopes of a late finals charge have taken a blow, after star fullback Kalyn Ponga exited their loss to the Bulldogs early due to a “Grade 1+ hamstring injury“, that will see him miss 3-4 weeks of action.

The news was far worse for Ponga’s Knights teammate Slade Griffin, who is set to miss up to a year of football, after suffering tears to ACL, LCL and meniscus in an horrifying knee injury.

Broncos coach Wayne Bennett has called on the club to provide clarity on his coaching future, to prevent the situation being a distraction during his side’s run into the finals.

Titans backrower Bryce Cartwright will only miss two games as a result of the broken hand he suffered during training this week.

Rabbitohs centre Greg Inglis is set to miss six weeks due to a broken thumb suffered during his side’s last gasp win over the Cowboys, ruling the Maroons captain out of Origin 3.

Rabbitohs back-rower Angus Crichton has confirmed that he intends to honour his deal with the Roosters for next year, despite rumours to the contrary.

Inglis not heading to Brisbane

June 8, 2017, 7:37 am By Joel Leave a Comment

If Rabbitohs fullback Greg Inglis ultimately decides to request a release and move to Brisbane, it won’t be to play for the Broncos.

That’s the word from Courier-Mail reporter Peter Badel, who’s told Fox Sports that Broncos coach Wayne Bennett has categorically ruled such a move out.

“I’ve spoken to Wayne Bennett, and I can tell you that he has emphatically ruled out Greg Inglis ever returning to the Broncos in any way, shape, or form,” Badel said. “He will not be at Red Hill.”

“He says the Broncos simply can’t afford a man of GI’s ability.”

Which is true, salary sombrero or not. The Broncos have just added Sharks utility Jack Bird on big dollars, as well as re-signing Anthony Milford, and having Darius Boyd still to sign as well.

Which isn’t to say that Inglis won’t move to South-east Queensland. But if he does, retirement or the Titans look like being his best options.

Inglis-Broncos rumour persists

June 6, 2017, 2:16 pm By Joel Leave a Comment

Last week, the Rabbitohs took the unusual step of releasing a statement in response to speculation that star fullback Greg Inglis may not be at the club in 2018. Nonetheless, the story hasn’t disappeared, with WWOS the latest outlet to report it.

The suggestion is that Inglis may head to the Broncos in 2018 on compassionate grounds, as his wife is considering a permanent move to Brisbane for more family support with their young children.

Obviously, the Broncos would have to clear a lot of salary cap space to accommodate a player of Inglis’ calibre, and this is largely speculation at this point, but it seems the story may linger around for a while yet.

Rabbitohs issue Inglis statement

May 17, 2017, 6:27 pm By Joel Leave a Comment

The Rabbitohs have tonight issued a statement, indicating that star fullback Greg Inglis has entered a mental health rehabilitation facility.

The statement doesn’t indicate specifically what problems Inglis is dealing with, and you won’t find any speculation on them here at The Obstruction Rule.

Inglis and the club may choose to publicly reveal the situation in their own time; but until then, we consider it none of our business and sincerely wish the best for Greg and his loved ones.
