The Weekend Wrap: 9/9/18

September 9, 2018, 11:14 pm By Joel Leave a Comment

Rabbitohs halfback Adam Reynolds will require scans on his shoulder, and captain Greg Inglis took a blow to the ribs, but both players are expected to be back next week for their semi final against the Dragons.

Rabbitohs assistant coach David Furner will leave the club at the end of the season, after landing the head coaching job at Leeds.

Warriors fullback Roger Tuivasa-Sheck will be in a race against time to be ready for the Kiwi’s end-of-year Test, after suffering a strained MCL.

The news was worse for Sharks star Wade Graham, who’ll miss the rest of the finals and the start of next season, after tearing his ACL in the loss to the Roosters.

Roosters centre Latrell Mitchell is in danger of missing his side’s preliminary final, after being charged with a crusher tackle on Josh Dugan.

Roosters prop Siosiua Taukeiaho is also in some doubt, after injuring his ankle during the win.

Dragons forward Jack de Belin failed to finish his side’s win due to an ankle problem, but still expects to be back for next week’s semi final.

The same can’t be said for Gareth Widdop, who dislocated his shoulder again, and is considered “no chance” for next weekend.

The Eels are rumoured to be shopping Mitch Moses around to other NRL clubs, after reluctantly accepting that nobody wants Corey Norman.

NRL fans had best make sure their TV’s mute button is functioning, following reports that Ray Hadley will be calling more games for Channel 9 in 2019.

The Rabbitohs are expected to this week announce the re-signing of star forward Sam Burgess for at least the next four years, on a deal worth over $1 million-per-season.

Storm halfback Brodie Croft missed his side’s final round loss to the Panthers, after injuring his knee playing lawn bowls.

Dragons coach Paul McGregor has confirmed that five-eighth Gareth Widdop will return for their elimination final against the Broncos.

Meanwhile, they’ll be sweating on scans for forward Jack De Belin, who suffered a suspected foot injury during his side’s victory.

Roosters coach Trent Robinson has emphatically denied any interest in signing Sea Eagles forward Martin Taupau, despite media reports linking him to the tri-colours.

Broncos coach Wayne Bennett has denied speculation that utility Jack Bird is to depart the club, saying that Bird will “be at the club next year“.

The season has ended painfully for the Sea Eagles, with star fullback Tom Trbojevic suffering a suspected fractured eye socket during his side’s hammering from the Broncos.

The Weekend Wrap: 27/5/18

May 27, 2018, 10:16 pm By Joel Leave a Comment

Cowboys hooker Jake Granville is reportedly close to inking a three-year extension to remain in North Queensland.

Cowboys prop Matt Scott is facing a one-match ban that would have ruled him out of Origin selection, though early reports are that he wouldn’t have been selected, anyway.

From the same game, Storm forward Sam Kasiano is also facing a one-match suspension, for dangerous contact on Johnathan Thurston.

The Titans are confident backrower Kevin Proctor won’t miss any further time, despite aggravating a groin injury in his side’s loss to the Roosters.

Despite Tariq Sims, Ben Hunt and Jack de Belin all failing to finish his side’s loss to the Panthers, Paul McGregor says that all will be available for Origin, if selected.

Panthers forward Jack Hetherington is facing his second suspension in just five NRL games, with a one-match ban looming for a leg pull on Dragons forward Paul Vaughan.

The Sharks are hopeful of re-signing backrower Jason Bukuya in the coming weeks, while awaiting decisions on the playing futures of teammates Luke Lewis and Paul Gallen.

Tigers coach Ivan Cleary has refused to rule out the possibility of Bulldogs fullback Moses Mbye arriving at Concord this year, saying that the team is “always looking for good players“.

de Belin banned for one week

June 20, 2017, 8:16 pm By Joel Leave a Comment

The bad news is: the Dragons will be without forward Jack de Belin for this week’s match. The good news is: this week’s match is against the Knights.

The NRL has announced that de Belin was tonight found guilty of a crusher tackle on Eels diver Kenny Edwards, and will be suspended for one week.

Frankly, Edwards should be suspended for writhing around in pain, only to miraculously recover, jump up, and try to take a quick tap, once he received a penalty.

But that’s just our opinion.

de Belin faces 1-week suspension

June 19, 2017, 1:46 pm By Joel Leave a Comment

Dragons forward Jack de Belin faces a week on the sidelines, after being charged with a crusher tackle on Eels second-rower Kenny Edwards, during the Dragons’ loss to the Eels.

He’d need to successfully challenge the suspension at the NRL judiciary in order to have the ban overturned.

In related news, Edwards is likely to be nominated for a Logie, for his work in the same tackle.
