The Weekend Wrap: 10/6/18

June 10, 2018, 8:49 pm By Joel Leave a Comment

The Raiders will be without winger Jordan Rapana for up to two months, after he tore his hamstring in his side’s loss to the Panthers.

He may be joined on the sidelines next week by teammate Charlie Gubb, who’s facing a one-match suspension for dangerous contact on Panthers half Nathan Cleary.

The Panthers didn’t get away unscathed either, with wrecking-ball Viliame Kikau to potentially miss “four-to-six weeks” with a suspected MCL injury.

Titans prop Jarrod Wallace is facing a one-week ban for dangerous contact, following his side’s loss to the Rabbitohs.

The Sea Eagles are likely to be missing hooker Apisai Koroisau for some time, after he failed to finish his side’s loss due to a foot injury.

Warriors hooker Isaac Luke may be in his final year at the club, with speculation mounting that he may be forced out due to salary cap constraints.

The season of Knights utility Jamie Buhrer may be over, after he suffered a suspected ACL tear in his side’s loss to the Roosters.

The loss of Buhrer came after the late scratching of teammate Daniel Saifiti, who’s set to miss four-to-six weeks due to ligament damage in his foot.

After being a late scratching for his side’s loss to the Sharks, Tigers five-eighth Benji Marshall is set to miss up to six weeks with a calf injury.

Though he’s yet to make an announcement on his future, media reports have begun to suggest that Sharks skipper Paul Gallen is to retire at the end of 2018.

Storm forward Jesse Bromwich is facing another stint on the sidelines, after injuring his hamstring during his side’s win over the Broncos.

The Weekend Wrap: 22/4/18

The Knights’ search for a star forward looks set to continue for a little while longer at least, after Broncos prop Tevita Pangai Jr indicated that he doesn’t plan on leaving Brisbane, adding that “we’ll get it sorted“.

There are fears Broncos hooker Andrew McCullough will miss up to a month of action, after he hyperextended his elbow during his side’s loss to the Storm.

The Storm didn’t escape the match unscathed though, with key forward Jesse Bromwich set to miss a few weeks with a Grade One MCL injury suffered in the same game.

The NRL meanwhile, have have declared that the decision to award a try from Billy Slater‘s “drop kick” was indeed the correct call.

Rabbitohs skipper Sam Burgess is facing another two weeks on the sidelines, after being charged for his high shot on Raiders half Aidan Sezer.

The season of Knights halfback Mitchell Pearce appears to be over, after he suffered a ruptured pectoral in his side’s last-gasp win over the Tigers.

In better news Nathan Brown could become the Knights head coach indefinitely, with the club reportedly close to offering Brown an open-ended, performance-based deal.

Eels fullback Clint Gutherson was announced as a co-captain of the club prior to their game against the Sea Eagles, and he made his maiden captaincy outing a win.

The injury comeback of Eels star Jarryd Hayne was short-lived, leaving his team’s first win of the year early, with another hip injury.

Proctor out for four games

May 10, 2017, 1:59 pm By Joel Leave a Comment

Storm forward Jesse Bromwich should think himself lucky that he doesn’t play for the Titans (and not just because they’re rubbish).

The Titans have today suspended second-rower Kevin Proctor for four matches, fined him $20,000, and instructed him to complete 50 hours community service, as a result of involvement in the weekend’s recreational drug scandal.

For comparison, Bromwich was suspended by the Storm for two matches, and politely asked not to do it again.

Bromwich and Proctor to miss World Cup

May 8, 2017, 3:32 pm By Joel Leave a Comment

The fallout from the NRL drugs scandal continues.

According to Stuff, Kiwi captain Jesse Bromwich and second-rower Kevin Proctor won’t be considered for the Rugby League World Cup as a result of their involvement in the illicit drug saga.

The NZRL confirmed the penalty at a press conference.

Bromwich has also been suspended for two matches by the Storm, and stepped down as Kiwis captain.

Proctor is understood to have stood himself down from playing and as Titans co-captain, while he awaits further sanctions from the Titans board.

Earlier today, Roosters winger Shaun Kenny-Dowall offered to take a hair follicle drug test in order to prove that he hasn’t taken any illicit substances, following his own involvement in a separate incident.
