The Weekend Wrap: 9/9/18

September 9, 2018, 11:14 pm By Joel Leave a Comment

Rabbitohs halfback Adam Reynolds will require scans on his shoulder, and captain Greg Inglis took a blow to the ribs, but both players are expected to be back next week for their semi final against the Dragons.

Rabbitohs assistant coach David Furner will leave the club at the end of the season, after landing the head coaching job at Leeds.

Warriors fullback Roger Tuivasa-Sheck will be in a race against time to be ready for the Kiwi’s end-of-year Test, after suffering a strained MCL.

The news was worse for Sharks star Wade Graham, who’ll miss the rest of the finals and the start of next season, after tearing his ACL in the loss to the Roosters.

Roosters centre Latrell Mitchell is in danger of missing his side’s preliminary final, after being charged with a crusher tackle on Josh Dugan.

Roosters prop Siosiua Taukeiaho is also in some doubt, after injuring his ankle during the win.

Dragons forward Jack de Belin failed to finish his side’s win due to an ankle problem, but still expects to be back for next week’s semi final.

The same can’t be said for Gareth Widdop, who dislocated his shoulder again, and is considered “no chance” for next weekend.

The Eels are rumoured to be shopping Mitch Moses around to other NRL clubs, after reluctantly accepting that nobody wants Corey Norman.

NRL fans had best make sure their TV’s mute button is functioning, following reports that Ray Hadley will be calling more games for Channel 9 in 2019.

The Weekend Wrap: 3/6/18

June 4, 2018, 12:54 am By Joel Leave a Comment

Sea Eagles second rower Jack Gosiewski is facing a one-week ban for a late shot on Johnathan Thurston, but it doesn’t matter anyway, as he suffered a broken arm as well in the loss.

Rabbitohs forward John Sutton is hoping to play on in 2019, and has told his coach Anthony Seibold as much.

Rabbitohs hooker Robbie Farah has admitted that he’s contemplating retirement, saying that he has to “weigh up if I still want to play“.

Sharks fullback Josh Dugan was a late scratching for Cronulla on Friday night, and is set to miss up to a month with a leg injury.

The Sharks have been linked to a mid-season move for Bulldogs prop Aaron Woods, with Sharks coach Shane Flanagan saying that “we’ll have a look at it“.

Early fears that Eels half Mitch Moses may have suffered an MCL tear have been proven wide of the mark, with the club revealing that he merely suffered some “bone bruising“, and he should return in a couple of weeks.

Likewise, the hamstring injury for Eels utility Will Smith isn’t believed to be too bad, and he should only miss a match or two.

The good news ends there though for Parramatta, with second rower Tepai Moeroa facing a three-week ban for a shoulder charge.

It’s unclear exactly where Eels five-eighth Corey Norman will play next year, following reports that he’s unwanted at Parramatta.

Finally on Parramatta, Eels second rower Beau Scott will wait until he’s further into his rehab from his ACL repair before deciding whether or not to play on in 2019.

Former Kiwis captain Nathan Cayless has been appointed as an assistant to New Zealand head coach Michael Maguire.

Tigers keen on Lolohea

May 3, 2017, 11:58 am By Joel Leave a Comment

The Tigers have a giant, James Tedesco-sized hole to fill at fullback next year, and they’re leaving no stone unturned in their quest to fill it.

Having already been linked to Bulldog Will Hopoate and Rabbitohs winger Alex Johnston, Fox Sports is now reporting that the Tigers are preparing to offer a contract to out-of-favour Warriors fullback Tui Lolohea.

Lolohea is under contract for 2018, but having spent much of the last 18 months languishing in reserve grade, teams are lining up to try and pry the prodigious talent from New Zealand. And the Tigers are reportedly at the front of that line.

The report indicates that the Tigers’ offer is for two-and-a-half years, and if successful, would free up Mitch Moses to head to the Eels immediately, as Lolohea is also a handy five-eighth.

Lolohea has played 53 first grade matches for the Warriors, and 1 Test each for New Zealand and Tonga. He’s been named again for Tonga this weekend.

Brooks re-signs with Tigers

April 5, 2017, 7:48 am By Joel Leave a Comment

1 down, 3 to go.

SMH reports that the first of the inappropriately labeled “Big 4”, halfback Luke Brooks, has agreed to terms with the Tigers.

The deal is believed to be for two years, and worth a total of $1.1 million.

The report suggests that team-mate James Tedesco is weighing up an offer from the club worth north of $1.1 per season, while Mitchell Moses is being linked with Parramatta.

Brooks has played 70 first grade matches for the Tigers, and won 29 of them.
