Eels intend to keep Hayne

August 15, 2018, 8:32 pm By Joel Leave a Comment

He mightn’t be the unstoppable force that he once was, but Jarryd Hayne remains the Eels’ best player, at that looks like being enough to earn him a new deal.

According to nrl.com, the Eels intend to offer Hayne a new contract for next year, with Parramatta coach Brad Arthur saying that “he knows we want him”.

That puts the ball firmly in Hayne’s court, who’s yet to publicly announce whether or not he even plans on playing rugby league next year, let alone remaining in the NRL.

Should he decide to stay though, at least he knows he’ll have a home at the Eels.

Hayne has played 211 first grade games for the Eels and Titans, 23 Origins for New South Wales, 11 Tests for Australia, and 10 Tests for Fiji.

Norman met with Titans

August 1, 2018, 10:40 pm By Joel Leave a Comment

It’s no secret at this point that Eels five-eighth Corey Norman is unwanted at Parramatta, but what’s less well known is who (if anyone) is willing to take a punt on him.

According to nrl.com, the Titans might be an option, after revealing that Norman met with Titans coach Garth Brennan three weeks ago.

With Norman reportedly on a deal worth $900,000 for next season, there’s a lot to work out before anyone commits to taking a chance on him.

However, he’s still an NRL-quality talent, and would provide the Titans with a perfect foil for Ash Taylor.

Norman has played 165 first grade games for the Eels and Broncos.

Eels land Ferguson

July 4, 2018, 5:10 pm By Joel Leave a Comment

The Eels rebuild has officially begun.

According to The Daily Telegraph, the Eels have agreed to terms with Roosters winger Blake Ferguson on a new three-year deal, that will see Ferguson head to Parramatta until the end of 2021.

It’s long been known that the Eels were on the hunt for a winger to replace Semi Radradra (they were heavily linked to Panthers winger Josh Mansour, before he opted to stay put at Penrith), but their pursuit of Ferguson specifically was kept pretty quiet.

The club has also been linked recently with Sharks hooker James Segeyaro, as they look to improve on a disappointing 2018

Ferguson has played 181 first grade games for the Roosters, Raiders and Sharks, 7 Origins for New South Wales, and 7 Tests for Australia.

Eels linked to Segeyaro

July 3, 2018, 10:48 pm By Joel Leave a Comment

With their 2018 season already down the gurgler, it’s time for the Eels to assess their roster and start the climb back to relevance.

To that end, it would appear that they’ve identified hooker as a position of need. According to WWOS reporter The Mole, the Eels are looking at Sharks hooker James Segeyaro as a potential upgrade.

Segeyaro is off contract at the end of this season, and as the back-up to Jayden Brailey at Cronulla, it’s likely he’d earn more with a starting role elsewhere.

The article also mentions the Tigers as a potential landing spot for Segeyaro, where he could play under his former Panthers coach Ivan Cleary.

Segeyaro has played 130 first grade games for the Sharks, Panthers and Cowboys, and 5 Tests for Papua New Guinea.

Matagi heading to Huddersfield

July 2, 2018, 12:36 pm By Joel Leave a Comment

The NRL career of Eels prop Suaia Matagi appears to be almost over, after the 30-year-old veteran decided to take a deal with Super League club Huddersfield.

The Giants have officially announced the signing of Matagi for next season, just days after the club announced that they wouldn’t be pursuing former Sea Eagles utility Jackson Hastings.

Matagi has played 101 first grade games for the Eels, Panthers, Roosters and Warriors, 1 Test for New Zealand, and 8 for Samoa.
