The Weekend Wrap: 9/9/18

September 9, 2018, 11:14 pm By Joel Leave a Comment

Rabbitohs halfback Adam Reynolds will require scans on his shoulder, and captain Greg Inglis took a blow to the ribs, but both players are expected to be back next week for their semi final against the Dragons.

Rabbitohs assistant coach David Furner will leave the club at the end of the season, after landing the head coaching job at Leeds.

Warriors fullback Roger Tuivasa-Sheck will be in a race against time to be ready for the Kiwi’s end-of-year Test, after suffering a strained MCL.

The news was worse for Sharks star Wade Graham, who’ll miss the rest of the finals and the start of next season, after tearing his ACL in the loss to the Roosters.

Roosters centre Latrell Mitchell is in danger of missing his side’s preliminary final, after being charged with a crusher tackle on Josh Dugan.

Roosters prop Siosiua Taukeiaho is also in some doubt, after injuring his ankle during the win.

Dragons forward Jack de Belin failed to finish his side’s win due to an ankle problem, but still expects to be back for next week’s semi final.

The same can’t be said for Gareth Widdop, who dislocated his shoulder again, and is considered “no chance” for next weekend.

The Eels are rumoured to be shopping Mitch Moses around to other NRL clubs, after reluctantly accepting that nobody wants Corey Norman.

NRL fans had best make sure their TV’s mute button is functioning, following reports that Ray Hadley will be calling more games for Channel 9 in 2019.

Roosters forward Siosiua Taukeiaho will require further scans on Monday on a knee injury suffered in the pre-game warm-up, after earlier scans were inconclusive.

The Sharks will be without captain Paul Gallen for 4-6 weeks, after scans confirmed he suffered a Grade 2 MCL injury in his side’s loss to the Dragons.

Broncos second-rower Matt Gillett will miss up to 3 months of football, after it was revealed he’s been playing with a broken neck.

The Warriors have lost Solomone Kata for up to 4 weeks due to an ankle injury suffered in their first loss of the season.

Warriors second-rower Leivaha Pulu will need further assessment on his ankle injury though, but is also expected to miss some time.

The full extent of the Bulldogs’ salary cap woes have been revealed, with reports that the club have just $800,000 in cap space remaining for 2019, and 12 players off contract.

Panthers winger Josh Mansour appears set for an extended stint on the sidelines, after suffering a suspected fractured cheekbone in his side’s hammering of the Titans.

The Titans weren’t without their own issues though, with Nathan Peats failing to return after the 25th minute due to a rib injury.

The Denver Test between New Zealand and England remains on track to proceed, after a meeting with NRL CEOs and the RLPA this week.

The Fiji Bati will need to find a find a new head coach, after Mick Potter announced his resignation after four yeas in the role.

Melbourne have poached a collection of showpiece matches for coming years, including the 2019 All Stars game, a 2021 & 2025 Origin match, and a 2022 & 2023 Kangaroos Test match.

Tupou out for up to six weeks

August 7, 2017, 4:35 pm By Joel Leave a Comment

The Roosters’ loss to the Sea Eagles has proven particularly costly, with winger Daniel Tupou expected to be missing a while, after scans today confirmed a right groin tear.

The Roosters made the announcement this afternoon, stating that injury is expected to rub Tupou out for up to six weeks. That would see him miss the rest of the regular season, and racing the clock to make it back in time for the finals, with just four regular season rounds remaining.

They received better news on Siosiua Taukeiaho, who’s finger injury is unlikely to see him miss any time.

Scans have confirmed that Knights winger White Lightning suffered a back fracture during his side’s upset win over the Warriors.

The Titans are expected to be without halfback Ash Taylor next week, after he suffered a suspected medial ligament injury during their flogging at the hands of Brisbane.

From the same game, Broncos forward Joe Ofahengaue is facing a three-week stint on the sidelines after being charged with a dagerous throw on Titans forward Max King.

In better news for the Broncos, they finally confirmed the re-signing of winger Jordan Kahu to a new, three-year deal.

Sharks utility Jack Bird may be in some doubt for next week, after he failed to finish their loss to the Raiders due to a shoulder injury.

The Roosters suffered multiple injuries during their collapse to the Sea Eagles, losing winger Daniel Tupou to a groin injury, and forward Siosiua Taukeiaho to a dislocated finger.

Tigers coach Ivan Cleary has urged his son – Panthers halfback Nathan Cleary – not to rush into signing a long-term deal with Penrith.

Reports are gathering steam that a cap on football club spending will be introduced in the immediate future.

Melbourne and Brisbane are being rumoured as potential hosts for next year’s World Club Series, as momentum gathers for the matches to be played in Australia.

It’s being reported that former Kiwi Test back-rower Sonny-Bill Williams will return to the Roosters, as either a player or coach, when his rugby union contract expires at the end of 2019.
