Rabbitohs lock down Burgess

September 5, 2018, 3:34 pm By Joel Leave a Comment

Rabbitohs star forward Sam Burgess will be remaining in South Sydney for a fair while yet.

As expected, the Rabbitohs today announced the retention of Burgess on a long-term deal, that will keep him at the club until the end of 2023.

At that point, Burgess will be 34 years old, meaning that he’s now effectively a Bunny for life. The next question will be whether or not long-term extensions for his brothers will follow.

Burgess has played 160 first grade games for the Rabbitohs, and 24 Tests for Great Britain and England.

Knights “may have” added Rabbitohs’ Hunt

August 16, 2018, 4:53 pm By Joel Leave a Comment

The Knights have been quietly upgrading their backline for 2019, and they may have found another gem to add to the rotation.

According to WWOS reporter The Mole, the Knights “may have agreed to terms” with Rabbitohs three-quarter Hymel Hunt.

Hunt has been linked to the Knights for a while, so it’d be no surprise if they have indeed got their man.

If true, Hunt will join Sharks outside backs Jesse Ramien and Edrick Lee at Newcastle next year, who’ll also have Tautau Moga hopefully making a return from injury.

Hunt has played 44 first grade games for the Rabbitohs, Storm and Titans.

Rabbitohs replace Farah with McIlwrick

June 29, 2018, 4:01 pm By Joel Leave a Comment

For anyone who couldn’t understand why the Rabbitohs would release their back-up rake without a replacement ready, you can breathe easy.

The Rabbitohs today announced the immediate signing of Tigers hooker Matt McIlwrick on a one-and-a-half year deal.

The move effectively completes a McIlwrick-Robbie Farah player swap with the Tigers, with McIlwrick the new understudy to Blues hooker Damien Cook.

McIlwrick has played 56 first grade games for the Tigers, Sharks, Roosters and Raiders.

Kennar released for Mormon mission, too

June 15, 2018, 1:54 pm By Joel Leave a Comment

Forget rugby union or the Super League, the NRL is facing a player drain to a new enemy – the Mormon church.

Well over a decade since the ARU pillaged rugby league’s best wingers to play for the Wallabies, the Mormons are collecting a few themselves, with Rabbitohs winger Richie Kennar the latest to quit the NRL.

The Rabbitohs this afternoon announced that Kennar’s to be released at the conclusion of this season, to embark on his two-year mission.

Kennar has played 15 first grade games for the Rabbitohs and Storm.
